Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the chemical composition of essential oil and crude ethanolic extract from the fruits of Elsholtzia griffithii, and to evaluate their cosmeceutical bioactivities such as anti-acne, antioxidant, and anti-tyrosinase effects using in vitro experimental models. The main components of essential oils were neral (48.72%) and geranial (37.34%). Kaempferol, a dietary flavonoid, was found (0.45%) in crude ethanolic extract. The essential oil inhibited Propionibacterium acnes strongly, whereas the crude ethanolic extract demonstrated modest antibacterial action. The essential oil and crude ethanolic extract demonstrated antioxidant and anti-tyrosinase effects. ฉ 2023 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
