Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the factors in workplace accidents that affect
warehouse employees: A Case Study of Warehouse at Amata City Industrial Estate, Chonburi
Province, and study the ways to prevent accidents in this warehouse. This study was categorized
into 2 sample groups. The first group was composed of 127 warehouse employees, whereas
the second group was 13 members of the company's executives and the company's safety
committees. The survey questionnaire and focus group discussion were designed for data
collection. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation,
content analysis and Binary Logistic Regression Analysis. The factors that affect accidents
affecting the warehouse employees included Personal Status, Working Performance, Machine
tools and Equipment, and Environment and Safety Management. The results revealed that the
Personal Status factors of the warehouse employees aged between 20-30 years old and 31-40
years old were at high levels that have effects on the physical loss caused by the accidents at
Warehouse Company. Regarding physical loss of the warehouse employees, the direction
decreased of 0.189 and 0.111, respectively at the 0.05 significance level, and the total
percentage of accurate prediction at 85.80 % at the 0.05 significance level. Regarding the
Working Performance factors of the warehouse employees, it was found that, when taking shortcuts on the job or neglecting the following of policies, rules and safety procedures in
company, there was a high chance of physical loss caused by the accidents at the warehouse
company. This was evidenced in by an increase of 2.242 at the 0.05 significance level, and the
total percentage of accurate prediction at 87.40 % at the 0.05 significance level. With regard to
Working Performance factors of the warehouse employees, when working on behalf of someone
while lacking knowledge and experience in that work, there was a high chance of effects on the
damage of company assets caused by the accidents at warehouse company in the direction of
increasing of 1.629 at the 0.05 significance level, and the total percentage of accurate prediction
at 86.51 % at the 0.05 significance level. The suggested guidelines to prevent accidents from
happening at the warehouse company included: Speed limits determined and warning signs
posted, Speed monitoring system installed in all forklift vehicles, Only drivers authorized by the
employer operate the vehicles, Overloading of objects are strictly prohibited, Drivers are
required to wear shoes and helmets at all times, and Staff training conducted for all employees
every 3 months. Training conducted for all warehouse employees every 6 months was
recommended. Followed up and reported the driving performance of forklift drivers on a daily
basis. Red lights and traffic signs installed for warning at entrance-exit point, curve and
intersection. Annual health assessment provided to all warehouse employees. Listening to
warehouse employees regarding problems and suggestions on a weekly basis. Set a list of
degrees of damage indicators, punishment and rewards for warehouse employees. And the
establishment of a safety board, which coordinates with human resources of the company
every 6 months.
