Abstract
This research aims to study the effectiveness of teaching and learning on Outcome-based Education Module (OBEM) in the course INT201 Client-Side Web Programming I which is designed into three sub-modules for 118 sophomore students of Bachelor of Science Program in Information Technology, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). The learning modules are designed with consideration for both academic knowledge and skill development levels. These modules help students recognize their own abilities in each module and allow retakes only for those that have not been passed. Students were tracked for their learning outcomes over three academic semesters from two consecutive programming courses, namely INT201 Client- Side Web Programming I and INT203 Client-Side Programming II. Research Group 1 includes students who passed all three modules in semester 1-2022 and took the course INT203 in semester 2-2022. On the other hand, Research Group 2 includes students who could not pass all three modules, and they will take additional practices class and reassessment in semester 2-2022. The latter group enrolled the course INT203 in semester 1-2023. We analyzed the statistics on the learning outcomes, assessed by instructors, including individual exam, groupwork projects, and grading levels. Additionally, providing students to anonymously reflect on their own knowledge and skill level as well as their satisfaction with groupwork projects and the performance of group members. The study results indicate that the learning outcomes from the three modules in the prior course significantly impact on the subsequent course’s learning outcomes, regardless of when learners receive outcomes verification. When using the same grade cutoff ranges for both research groups, it is found that there is a distribution of academic performance levels in the course INT203 was close to each other. For Research Group 1 and Research Group 2, the percentage for grades in the range (A - C+) were 85.73 and 81.81 respectively, while the percentages for grades in the range (C - D) were 14.28 and 18.18 respectively.
