Abstract
Awareness of the music value is to feel, think, analyze, and interpret music value consciously and holistically, leading to music appreciation. This article aims to promote awareness of the music value at the University of Science and Technology with the Case study: “Classical Music Talk” activity, at the School of Liberal Arts, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi. In the results of 52 participants’ opinions analysis, it was found that 3 issues: (1) knowledge and understanding, (2) skills and experiences, and (3) appreciation of classical music reflected by the participants are consistent with Smith’s five reasons why everyone should have music in their lives: (1) the activity can bring people together, (2) the activity improves mental health and attitudes about classical music, (3) the activity is able to develop the competency of the lecturer, pianists, and staff, (4) the activity was is able to develop the creativity of the pianists, lecturer, and audiences, and (5) the activity is fun and relax. The activities organized such as “Classical Music Talk” encourage awareness of the music value at the University of Science and Technology, which is a university that does not emphasize music. Therefore, the emphasis on music should be done continuously. The participants will grow up to be music listeners who are aware of the music value of both Thai music and Western music in the future.
