Abstract
Title: The Silence of Toxic Fog
Abstract
In an era where urban life is driven by relentless speed, mechanical noise, and digital screens that never sleep, there exists another sound so faint it almost goes unnoticed—the sound of toxic fog. The Silence of Toxic Fog is an abstract painting series that questions the existence of what is invisible yet profoundly destructive: air pollution, particularly PM 2.5 dust.
This work highlights the environmental crisis caused by air pollution as an unspoken threat silently infiltrating daily life. It aims to become a “voice” for the unacknowledged, offering viewers a contemplative space to become aware of and reflect upon this pressing issue. Silence in this context is metaphorical—representing society’s indifference toward an ongoing crisis that steadily erodes health and quality of life.
The objective of this creative work is to use abstract painting as a tool for emotional expression, capturing the tension, suffocation, and inexpressible feelings born from living in a toxic environment. The creative process employs acrylic paint and clay powder as primary materials, with experimental techniques such as dripping, pouring, and splashing colors, combined with thinner to induce chemical reactions. These processes result in cracks and fractures on the canvas surface—an aesthetic representation of emotional rupture. Rather than being strictly controlled, these marks allow chance and material freedom to play an essential role, symbolizing the unpredictability of environmental conditions.
Ultimately, this project serves as both a personal and collective reflection space, translating emotional experience into visual language and disseminating knowledge of creative processes. It expands the discourse of contemporary art through its exhibition at the national level, inviting viewers to confront the invisible yet tangible impact of air pollution.
