Abstract
This research aims to achieve the following objectives 1) Develop a test used to assess understanding of a free body diagram. 2) Explore the understanding of a free body diagram. The sample group consists of 60 Grade 9 students and were selected individually. The research instrument is a test designed to measure understanding of a free body diagram, which has passed quality checks. The test comprises 7 questions divided into 2 objectives. The survey revealed that, on average, 95% of students had discrepancies in their opinions. Specifically, the results indicated that students held misconceptions on 3 issues: drawing the position of forces, drawing the direction of force, and regarding specifying in terms of lacking and exceeding force.
