Abstract
In Bangkok, taxi drivers usually search for passengers by cruising which causes more severe traffic congestion, loss of energy and environmental pollution. This study proposes ways to promote effective taxi phone calling, so that taxi drivers can wait for passengers at the taxi stands instead of cruising. A quick taxi dispatch center is temporarily operated for observing the behavior of taxi drivers and customers' responses. From the experiment, all customers are highly satisfied with the service and a number of taxi drivers like waiting at the taxi stand. The customers are not only the existing taxi users but also the commuters from various modes, especially the private car users (72.4%). The key factor that influences on the demand of taxi phone calling is passengers' taxi-waiting time.
