Implant materials are used to treat or support patients' life in implant fixation. By using implant materials in human body, the implant surface is contacted to several organs and biological fluid. Moreover, mechanical and biological properties of the implant surface significantly influence its surrounding tissues. This research mainly focuses on the surface roughness and biological properties affected by the surface modification technique-Fine Shot Peening (FSP). Since it is a new technology and no researchers working on FSP systematically especially in biomedical field. For evaluation, Mechanical Polishing (MP) was performed in order to compare with FSP condition. Ti-6Al-4V alloy and stainless steel SUS316L were selected to use as specimens. Surface roughness and topography also biocompatibility, cell adhesion and protein adsorption were investigated. The results of MTT assay indicated that both specimens with FSP and MP exhibit excellent biocompatibility. In addition, cell adhesion and protein adsorption of the specimens with FSP are better than MP condition, since the dimple structure on FSP generate higher surface contact area. ฉ 2017 IEEE.
