Abstract
The aim of this study is to monitor spatial changes of rice cultivation area in the Central region of Thailand, which is very important agricultural areas of the whole country. Land use and land cover (LULC) data with 3 periods including years 2000-2001, 2010-2013 and 2016-2017, were used to analyze in this case. Rice cultivation areas of each period were extracted from these LULC. Then these specific data were analysed using spatial statistics and geographic information system (GIS) to detect spatial changes of cultivation area. The results of this study showed that the trend of rice cultivation area in 2000-2017 was decreased 19.50% of total rice cultivation area. And the results also showed that the decreasing trend in 2000-2001 to 2010-2013 periods was higher than 2010-2013 to 2016-2017 periods, which are 16.56% and 3.51% respectively. The top 3 provinces named Nakhonsawan, Pichit and Phitsanulok are the largest rice cultivation reserved area.
