Development of Microscopic Traffic Simulation Model for Toll Plaza: A Case Study of Pattaya Toll Plaza on Motorway No.7

M-Flow system is the system using AI to detect license plates at the toll plaza on the expressway.However, it requires massive cost of installation and limitations. The objective of this research is to reduce traffic at the toll plaza by increasing more M-pass users. Data was collected from CCTVs at Motorway No. 7 on Monday, 2 July 2018 during 7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. The data were analyzed by Vissim. The researcher determined that additional M-Pass booth should be increased and the use of M-pass by 10%, 20%, and 30% increasingly. The results revealed that if the vehicles turn to use more M-pass at least 10%, it will reduce the traffic congestion by 16% and the length of the queue by 8%. The findings can be applied to promote expressway users to utilize more M-pass in order to reduce traffic at the toll plaza.
