Abstract

Finite element method (FEM) has become a useful tool, both for developing and analyzing sheet metal forming processes. In this research, an automotive part named "REAR FUEL TANK" was simulated using PAM-STAMP for the forming of the workpiece and using the equation Hill's 1948 predicted the molding behavior of the material. The material used was Aluminum Alloys A5754-O with a thickness of 1.5 mm. The material was assumed to be isotropic. The most influential parameters tested were the blank holder force and initial blank size. The customer-specific below 20% is the standard of factory, which solved the thinning problem below 25% and used the blank holder force at 35 tons. And when the correction blank holder force was used to apply with the blank size at 288 x 404 x 1.5 mm, it was found that the thinning value was 19.4%, which is an improvement from the original.
