Abstract

Simple NIRs technique has been designed and developed for evaluating the quality of mango fruit. This research describes the design and development of non-destructive measurement using reflectance mode from the specific wavelength of near infrared. The experiment was conducted on day 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 after harvesting for measuring the chemical components in mango such as Total Soluble Solid (TSS) which indicated the ripeness of mango. In the experiment, mango samples have been monitored for five days to study the correlation of ripening stage of mango compared with the output voltage from simple NIRs device. The results show that the output voltage keeps increasing each day while the amount of TSS increases each day and thus increasing the reflected light from the sample resulting in an increase in voltage. This result indicates that simple NIRs technique is possible to measuring the mango ripeness with non-destructive.
