Abstract
The purposes of this research were to develop the analytical thinking and positive attitude to Chemistry of Mathayomsuksa 5 students using the inquiry method integrated with problem-based activities on acid-base topic. The research instruments used in this work were lesson plans using the inquiry method integrated with problem-based activities, an analytical thinking test and a Likert scale questionnaire on the attitude towards chemistry. The data were analyzed by using mean and standard deviation. The study showed that the inquiry method integrated with problem-based activities enhanced the analytical thinking and positive attitude to chemistry. Through appropriate questioning techniques in inquiry process and hand-on activities, the students were encouraged to learn and develop their thinking skills. The students practiced to solve problems in given situations, to connect all related knowledge and to explain the rationale behind their observations in activities. This led to the development of analytical thinking of students. The results showed that the post-test score in analytical thinking test was higher than the pre-test score. After the developed learning implementation, the number of students that had the analytical thinking skill higher than the set criterion (70% of the full score) was increased. In addition, the students’ attitude toward chemistry was at high level. This indicated that the students had strongly positive attitude toward chemistry and learning engagement on acid-base topic via the developed learning process in high level.
