บทคัดย่อ
Drying is a widely used industrial process involving the transient simultaneous transfer of heat and mass. A new class of particulate drying equipment, based on the concept of impinging streams, namely, an impinging stream dryer (ISD), has then emerged as an interesting alternative. ISD belongs to a class of rapid drying equipment, similar to a flash dryer. Quality of a dried product is a primary parameter that can be used as a criterion to assess an industrial dryer, in addition to its drying capacity and energy consumption. To enhance its industrial feasibility and usability, scaling up of an ISD is an important task. Due to the complications of particle-particle and particle-fluid interactions within an ISD, computational fluid dynamics in combination with discrete element method (CFD-DEM) should be used to simulate the multiphase transport phenomena; the simulated information should then be used for scaling up the dryer. ฉ 2024 selection and editorial matter, Sachin Vinayak Jangam, Chung Lim Law, and Shivanand Shankarrao Shirkole.
